Grace and Ken: Lake Las Vegas Engagement

February 27th, 2012

I have been to many weddings as a guest and there is this portion of every wedding that always make me nervous – the bouquet toss. I have no idea how the tradition started but this is a few minutes out of the whole celebration that the guests’ attention is taken away from the bride and on to this lady who wishes to be the next bride. I never liked the attention. I guess that’s why I really like being a wedding photographer. I want to be unnoticed, like a fly on the wall.

About a couple of years ago, Grace and I were at a friend’s a wedding. As expected, they called out the single ladies for the bouquet toss. There were only a handful of us who lined up. She and I were standing next to each other. The bride tossed the bouquet and no one seemed eager to catch it. It landed straight in front of Grace. For a split second, there was silence and nobody had moved. I picked up the fallen bouquet and handed it over to Grace but she refused to take it. And so I ended up with it. Well, my friend, no doubt, that bouquet was really meant for you. I believe in fate and destiny and I am happy that you are marrying your soul mate.

Last week, I had the pleasure of photographing an engagement session with Grace and Ken at Lake Las Vegas. They are getting married in May in the fabulous city of Las Vegas. I am deeply honored that I will be capturing this joyous occasion.

Here are some of the photos taken at the photo shoot. Please watch the video slideshow at the end of the post. It’s my first shot at this thing called photo fusion and I’m pretty excited about it! Shout out to my friend, Karen, for capturing the video clips.

With the gondolas and house bridges on the backdrop, this feels like we were in Italy.

You two are gorgeous!

My boy Ken can dance!

Holiday Wish

From my home to yours, I wish you blessings, love and peace this holiday season. May we not forget the real reason why we celebrate this joyous occasion.

A Token of My Past

November 28th, 2011

I grew up in the 90s. In fact, most of my fond memories was when during this era. I was at that stage when I wasn’t a kid anymore but not quite an adult yet. My parents thought I was old enough to go along with my friends without a chaperone but not old enough on some chores and responsibilities. Ahh.. I loved that transition. Fun times, fun times!

As a reminder of the fun times I had, I decided to get something from the 90s. I was looking through a bunch of old pictures when I noticed the wrist watch that I was wearing on some of them. It was a Benetton watch with a blue strap, with a white bezel and a sailboat design on the background of the dial. It was my favorite timepiece. I have worn it all the time. I could not remember what happened to it. I wish I have taken good care of it.

I got this from ebay for a reasonable price because I think Benetton doesn’t make them anymore. I was quite disappointed that I didn’t get the same watch I used to have.  I guess I will have to settle for this.  The seller said she’s getting rid of some stuff that she doesn’t need anymore and this watch is one of them. I asked a little history of the item. She said it has been tucked away in a cabinet since she bought it about 20 years ago – never worn it. I guess her trash is now my treasure.

Thank You!

I know, I haven’t updated this blog for quite some time now. Creativity and inspiration have left me for a while. But now I’m back … I think … I hope. You, my readers, have fueled my passion and desire to write again. Oh how much I have missed it. I hope I can keep up.

I would like to thank those who have read my ramblings and gave me the thumbs up by liking the posts and leaving your kind comments. Words cannot express my appreciation for your gesture. I am truly grateful. Thank you very much!

Show Me Workshop by Philip Brasch

June 30th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, I had an opportunity to join one of Philip Brasch’s Show Me workshop. This workshop concentrated on lifestyle photography utilizing available light on engagement sessions. We were fortunate to work with two lovely engaged couples who were awesome to work with. I find it hard to believe this was their first photo shoot.

Here are some of the photos I took from the workshop.

Mira and Juan: Las Vegas Maternity

May 19th, 2011

She and I have been friends since high school. We lost touch for a while but thanks to the internet and social media, we were reconnected. I first met him only a few years ago. They have been together for a long time. I asked them how they met. Of course, I already know their story. She and I are friends, right? But I wanted to hear it from both of them.

We met at work”, he started. “The first time I saw her, I said to myself, who is this hot momma?!“, he said proudly while gently rubbing her baby bump. Then she started to tell me about their first conversation. Something about birthday candles and five dollars left in his wallet. She said he looked nervous at that time and almost out of words. He was smiling and nodding – a sign of confirmation. She was laughing and teasing him of how shy he was. They recounted how they became friends. Then their friendship grew into love. And the rest was history.

I was a witness to the union of this couple as they finally got married. And in any day now, they will welcome the arrival of their little bundle of joy, Isabella. Mira and Juan, thank you for trusting me and allowing me to capture and preserve this wonderful phase of your life. My very best wishes! I can’t wait to meet darling Isabella.

Stephanie and Mark: New York Wedding

April 17th, 2011

My love for photography somehow pushed me to do something I never thought I could. Several years ago, I swore to myself that I will never be caught behind the wheel in the Big Apple. Don’t get me wrong. . I really do but my previous visits involved taking the train, bus or someone else was driving.

That sort of changed when my aunt asked me to shoot my cousin’s wedding. I was ecstatic to take on this task because one, I get to see to my cousins again – I love being surrounded by familiar faces – and two, I get to shoot another wedding. I thought I got this one figured out. We’ll take the train – fast and convenient! But then I realized that this one’s going to be a traditional Filipino wedding, where on the wedding day, the bride and the groom are not allowed to see each other before the ceremony. The groom will only see his bride for the first time while she is walking down the aisle. So that being said, the couple will be in two separate places and there was no option for me but to bring a car. The last thing I want was to add stress to the bride and groom and to their family. Totally unprofessional.

Today, you reading this post only meant that I survived the ordeal. I came and conquered NYC and for me, it was an amazing feat. Not to mention that I was almost caught speeding again. It was totally worth it. Gotta love the concrete jungle. I had a blast covering this event. So, enough of my ramblings and let me show you some of the photos from the wedding. But before that, I’d like to thank Karen, for coming over to shoot with me on this joyous event.

Stephanie, you look gorgeous. I was behind a curtain and used it to frame this shot.

Mark is my cousin. Up to this day, I still remember him as a little boy, missing his two front teeth but with a killer smile – all because of his cute dimples.

You look dashing, Mark.

The bride and her bridesmaids. This one’s from my angle.

This one’s from Karen’s angle.

Tony, the videographer, said that he enjoys capturing Filipino parties because Pinoys like to boogie. You got that right, Tony.

Two of the most sweetest kids I know. They look like they are having a dance off or something. I miss them.

Rose and Kris: Moreno Valley Wedding :: 2nd Shooter for Karen Tandoc

March 19th, 2011

I have been to weddings before – but only as a guest. I never had the privilege to come as the official photographer up until the previous weekend. When Karen asked me to second shoot for her to a wedding, I agreed immediately before she even finished her sentence. Yes, I have decided to step out of my comfort zone of taking laid back photo shoots and walked into the stressful world of wedding photography. Crazy, right? But I love it! I couldn’t be more excited! Here are a few photos I took from Rose and Kris’ special day.

It was a gorgeous day in Moreno Valley. Mild temperatures, almost clear skies with just a hint of clouds. It was perfect for a garden wedding! We got there almost noon time and immediately went to work.

I had fun taking pictures of the groom and his groomsmen. I was told that they are good buds since childhood and I can imagine them as 7 year old kids playing around.

Before the “toss the bouquet”, the groomsmen decided to “toss the groom.”

And this, my friends, I call the money shot!

Clarissa and Laura

February 3rd, 2011

I fell in love with lifestyle and portrait photography about a year ago. It was actually accidental. I got my first SLR (single lens reflex) camera intending to use it for my travels. A couple of friends talked me into buying one. I’m glad they did. I love this camera more than anything else. Kidding! Of course, I love you too for taking time to read this post. So, while on vacation with friends, I took some candid shots of them. The photos came out good. They were not the best and the greatest but they were good enough for me. I was mainly drawn on the expressions on their faces. I love how unrehearsed and genuine it was. At that moment, I decided that this is something I would like to do.

And so my journey continues on this difficult but fulfilling path of portrait photography. I was asked by these two ladies, Clarissa and Laura, to do a boudoir session. I had no experience with boudoir before but I had no intention on turning down this request. I took it as a challenge. On the day of the shoot, I felt nervous, unprepared and the fear of failure was looming around my head. But negative feelings were gone the minute I held the camera up. These ladies were very easy to work with. I felt a connection instantly. Clarissa and Laura, you are both gorgeous and fabulous. Thanks for trusting me.

Here are some photos from the shoot.

And as we wrapped up the shoot, I took this photo of them while enjoying a conversation and their afternoon beverage.

I know my photography is still in its infancy that’s why I strive hard to be better at this craft. To those people who trusted and believed in me – my talents, my capabilities – thank you all so much! I have nothing else to offer but my utmost gratitude.

Happy First Year, Blog!

January 16th, 2011

Who would have thought that I would enjoy writing this much? It’s been a year since I started this blog and after 43 posts, and now 44, I can’t believe it’s still here.

It was a day after a big snow storm when the idea of creating a blog came up to me. I can’t get out … the unplowed streets were filled with high piles of snow. I know, crazy ideas sometimes come up when I’m bored. I created this blog to be some sort of a journal, where I can share my progress in photography or a reminder of the fun times I had on an adventure.

And so, for signifying the first year of this blog’s existence, I gave it a makeover. I declutterized it and said goodbye to the black background. Again, this is me when I’m bored. I also launched my website for prospective clients who don’t want to read through my ramblings. Check it out. You can also find the link at the top header of this page.

Happy first year, blog! I hope creativity and inspiration will come to me easily just as it was when I started.
